The importance of halal earnings in Islam

Allah says in the Qur'an, "It is He who has subjected you to the earth, walk in its ways and eat of that which He has endowed you..." [67:15]. The fundamental attitude of Islam toward man's position in the world is that Allah created the earth for man's benefit. Allah also gave him control over it. It is man's duty to benefit from this mercy and to make an effort to seek Allah's mercy throughout the earth. Sheikh Qardawi states that Islam encourages Muslims to engage in trade and commerce and to travel for what the Qur'an calls "seeking Allah's mercy. As we said earlier, there are many ways to invest. There are also many ways to make money in other ways. We are free to choose the methods that suit us. However, we must distinguish between the halal and haram methods available to us.
